How to Prepare Your Crystals and Tumbled Stones for Use

If you are choosing a crystal for a specific purpose such as prosperity, love, healing, mediation, etc., that purpose can be held in the mind and projected to the crystals. Some people will actually sense an energy response from a certain crystal. The energy response for example, can be a flash of light, a vibration, a tingling sensation, or a sense of the crystal saying I am yours.

Choosing crystals for someone else is also easy. One way to do this is to visualize the person for whom the crystal is being chosen, projecting that visualization to the crystals, and selecting the crystal which responds or the crystal to which you respond while visualizing the other person. Another method is to close the eyes, visualize the person for whom the crystal is being chosen, and upon opening the eyes, be aware of which crystals responds.

There are so many ways to cleanse a crystal. I cleanse my stones and crystals a certain way but it is an individual choice. There are different ways to cleanse your stones list below. My personal recommendations will be listed first:

I Smudge the crystal with sweetgrass, cedar, sage, incense, etc. This method of cleansing has been used for centuries by Native American cultures. Pass the crystal several times through the wafting smoke.

I then Cleanse the crystal under running tap water or distilled water and energize it in the moon light. Water is the universal cleanser and is effective in cleansing undesirable energies from all physical forms. As you do this, hold the intention that all negativity will be washed away.

I never ever put my stones in the sun. Some crystals can actually create heat and start a fire while sitting in sun light. I have seen this fist hand. I also never cleanse my stones with salt. They can pit and ruin the surface of a crystal.  I have gotten many phone calls when people put their stones in salt water.

To keep my stones cleansed I keep them next to or on some selenite. To keep them charged I keep them with quartz .

Here are other ways to cleanse your crystals that people recommend but please use caution with some of these procedures:

Cleanse the crystal under running tap water, in a flowing spring, river or lake, and energize it in the sun. Water is the universal cleanser and is effective in cleansing undesirable energies from all physical forms. As you do this, hold the intention that all negativity will be washed away.

Place the crystal on another mineral which is a specific energizer for 12-24 hours such as clear quartz.

Surround the crystal with a visualized white or golden light, using intention that any present negativity will be transformed to positive light energy. Concentration and intention must be maintained.

Soak the crystal in flowers such as rose petals, orange blossoms, honeysuckle, etc. for twenty-four hours; the essence strips away negativity and cleanses the stone while the purity and energy of the flower is transmitted to the stone.

Cleansing Your Crystal

Several ways are suggested:

1. Place it under the light of a full moon-sun for 24 hours.
2. Bury it in the earth for 24 hours, but make sure you mark the spot.
3. I personally NEVER EVER cleanse my stones with salt. Place in Sea Salt Water. One teaspoon of Sea Salt in a glass bowl in cool water. Place the crystal in the water. Make sure the crystal is covered with water. Let this bathe in the water for 24 hours. This is a wonderful way to rejuvenate the power of your crystal. It washes away the negative energy it has absorbed and recharges it with the positive healing energy again. Note: Some crystals should NOT be washed-cleansed in salt water or the sun for it changes their physical properties, not their metaphysical properties, they are listed below:

Not to be cleansed in Salt Water:
Calcite
Carnelian
Labradorite - Spectrolite
Lepidolite
Moldivate
Opal
Turquoise
Ulexite

Use caution only with the softer Mica and crystaline stones

These stones may fade in Sunlight:
Amethyst
Celestite
Opal
Turquoise

Crystal Clearing

Crystals are another precious gift of Mother Earth. It is not necessary to have a new crystal for every purpose or working. Crystals can be reprogrammed to new uses with just a bit of forethought and planning. When a particular working for which you have charged a crystal is completed, under a waning Moon, collect up the crystals no longer in use and thank them for their energy in your working. Clear them by first smudging them with sage and cedar smoke and then cleansing them in a salt water bath followed by a good rinsing in clear, running water. Place the cleared crystals in a windowsill where they can receive light from the Moon as she passes through her cycle. After a full Moon cycle, the crystals are once more ready to be charged with a new purpose and a new working. By: Winter Wren

Place the crystal in sunlight but be sure not to focus the rays from the sun where they could start a fire. Place the crystal in the light of the moon; the full moon and the new moon have the most energy.

Your thoughts, feelings and visualizations have an energetic charge; when you program a crystal to assist you in manifesting your desires and dreams you put that energetic charge into your crystal. Although quartz crystals are usually the preferred crystals for programming, many others can be used. Here are some examples: citrine, tigers eye or carnelian for abundance, rose quartz, rhodochrosite, sugilite or unakite for love and matters of the heart, aquamarine, dolomite, garnet, howlite or turquoise for creativity, aventurine, jade, mookaite or sodalite for physical health.

Below is one method of programming.

1. Hold the crystal in both hands and gaze into it, making contact with the crystal.

2. Start breathing with deep long breaths, inhaling through your nose and exhaling forcefully through your mouth.

3. Concentrate on what you want to program into the crystal: good health, new job, prosperity, a better relationship, etc. As you inhale, see a visual image of what you want; imagine how it feels to have it, and repeat an affirmation to yourself.

4. With each exhale send your intention into the crystal.

5. Your intention has now been programmed into the crystal. This vibration is stored in the crystal until you clear it and replace it with a new intention.
