Imbolc Activities

by Raven and Crone

Activities of Imbolc:

Bless your candles for the coming year.

Cleanse and re-consecrate your ritual tools and clean your altar.

Start ordering garden seeds for spring. Do a seed blessing with the seed you have in stock.

This is an appropriate time to bless your house. Ritually cleanse your home and start your "spring" cleaning.

Do a period of spiritual purification. Burn the Yule greens to send winter on its way. Do a purification bath to purify your body,. a meditation to purify your mind.

Consider spending extra time just with your family. Instead of spending time traveling and surrounding yourself with strangers, concentrate on those closest to you. If you belong to a group this would be a good time to just hang out, drink tea, and get to know each other better instead of just group business.

As a time of cleansing and purification, it's a great time to make or buy a besom if you don't already have one. Symbolically sweep your home top to bottom, ridding the old and making room for the new.

On Imbolc Eve, leave buttered bread in a bowl indoors for the fairies who travel with the Lady of Greenwood. Next day, dispose of it as the 'essence' will have been remove.

Place three ears of corn on the door as symbol of the Triple Goddess and leave until Ostara.

Decorate Your Altar with White and yellow flowers, a crown of thirteen candles, a sprig of evergreen, witches broom or besom, statue of Triple Goddess in Her maiden phase.

A few ideas taken from Cunningham's The Magical Household:

For the doorway:
Suspend over the door a fresh sprig of dill, tied with a blue cord (or red, if you prefer), to prevent those who mean you harm from entering

Grind Dragon's Blood herb into a powder and sprinkle it on door and window sills, to protect your house from harm.

Brids Oil

2 drams of almond oil or olive oil
1 dram of dragons blood
1 dram of sage oil
and 1 crushed garnet

Warm slowly on a very low heat in an enamel pan.
Let cool and place in small corked bottles or jars.
Charge the oil in your Magic Circle, wear it or use
it to anoint candles in your rituals and spells.
