Beltane or May Day is a Pagan holiday that means the cold days of winter are over. Usually April 30th and May 1st. All around us are symbols of fertility, growth, warmth and light. It is the time to have a Beltane Ritual, May Day party or Beltane Festival, to celebrate the end of winter.

Take a look at our Beltane articles, May Day celebration food recipes, Incense and Potpourri Recipes.

Summer Solstice, Litha, Mid Summer or St. John's Day is June 21 or 22. This festival is the celebration of the first day of summer, the longest day of the year. Since the Sun reaches its peak strength on this day, the God takes His place as Father Sun. The Goddess, in turn, becomes Mother Earth. And it's in these guises that both work long and hard to keep the Earth green, lush, and bountiful. Since Midsummer is the celebration of Summer Solstice-the first day of summer-festival, the dates vary year to year. This is from Dorothy Morrison's book "The Craft"

CHECK OUT OUR ARTICLES BELOW.
FREE SPELLS

Welcome to our new FREE SPELLS section. As time goes on we will add spells that we think you will enjoy and hopefully be able to use. If you are searching for spells to bend the will of other people, such as make someone love you, harm someone, and try to attain personal gain at the cost of someone else you will not find it here at Raven and Crone. Spells are just a way of directing energy to bring change into YOUR life, not someone elses. Change can happen in many ways and not in the way you would expect. Wiccans never do spells or rituals to bend the will of others, only to affect their own lives in a positive way by using their own energies. Please don't ask us for spells that would bend the will of others, we won't be able to help you. It takes many years of practice to channel your energies so don't take it lightly.

Just remember the magick is within you!

CHECK OUT OUR ARTICLES BELOW.

Lammas also known as Lughnasadh is on July 31 and August 1. It is a day to give thanks for the cycle of life, which provides us with sustenance for our bodies and spirits. The earth provides nourishment for our hunger, but we must provide ourselves with spiritual fuel as well. At the beginning of every year we make oaths to improve ourselves, and Lammas is a chance to reflect on these promises and see if we have remained true to our spirits.

In the lore of the Goddess and the God, Lammas is when the God knows that he must sacrifice himself for his people, and takes the role as the Dark Lord. The Lord enters the Underworld, allowing the Earth¢s creatures to reap the rewards of plentiful the season of his rule. The Dark Lord feels an emptiness, but does not recognize the source yet. He searches the Underworld in vain to cure his pain. When the God leaves the Goddess, she is devastated by his selfless sacrifice to his people. In her unhappiness, the Earths life begins to dwindle. The crops yield, but then wither. The warmth of the morning slowly dissolves into cool afternoons. She mourns the loss of her husband, and the season cools and darkens with her sadness.

CHECK OUT OUR ARTICLES BELOW.
Mabon Fall Equinox

Mabon also known as the fall equinox, marks the turning point of the fall and is on September 20 or 21. This holiday marks the second harvest, and preparation for winter. Astrologically, the equinox is when the sun passes into the sign of Libra, the sign of the Scales. Depending on the tradition, this day is observed sometime between September 21st and September 25th. This time of year is also known as the Wine Harvest, Cornucopia, and the Second Harvest. The full moon closest to the equinox is the one officially designated as the Harvest Moon.

This pagan holiday is actually the one that is most like the American holiday of Thanksgiving. The harvest of crops is celebrated at this time of year, and already it's time to look ahead to the waning of the season and start make winter preparations. The spirit of the harvest, known in some traditions as John Barleycorn, is seen as dying at this time of year, a necessary sacrifice so that fall will turn to winter and in turn give birth to spring.

CHECK OUT OUR ARTICLES BELOW.
Samhain

Samhain-pronounced SOW-in, SAH-vin, or SAM-hayne is one of the Greater Wiccan Sabbats and is usually celebrated on October 31st, although some Traditions prefer the date of November 1st. The various names for this Sabbat are Samhain which is Celtic, Shadowfest which is Strega, Martinmas or Old Hallowmas which is Scottish-Celtic, as well as Hallowmas, All Hallows Eve, Halloween, Day of the Dead, Feast of Spirits, Third Harvest, All Saints Eve and Celtic New Year. Though this Holiday is celebrated on October 31st, All Hallows Eve falls on November 7th, and Martinmas on November 11th.

The symbolism of this Sabbat is that of The Third and final Harvest, it marks the end of summer, the beginning of winter. It is a time marked by death when the Dead are honored - a time to celebrate and study the Dark Mysteries. Samhain means End of Summer. Its historical origin is The Feast of the Dead in Celtic lands. It is believed that on this night, the veil Between the Worlds is at its thinnest point, making this an excellent time to communicate with the Other Side.

CHECK OUT OUR ARTICLES BELOW.
Yule Winter Solstice

Yule occurs on the Winter Solstice December 21 or 22. This is the time of year when the sun is at its lowest point in the sky (Northern Hemisphere). The sun will only rise higher and higher in the sky from this point onward. The sun's light is growing as each day passes after this one, this holiday is celebrated as the birth of the sun. This also marks the beginning of Winter.

The waning (diminishing) sun is overtaken by the waxing (increasing) sun, thus the days become longer after the victory of The Oak King over his twin The Holly King. It is at Yule that the Goddess gives birth to the sun. In this aspect, the God represents hope in the coming cold of Winter it the is promise that spring lies ahead.

Yule is a time when we do Rituals and celebrate the increasing daylight, to renew, and to see the world through the eyes of a child. Spells done at Yule tend to raise our spirits, and bring harmony, peace, and joy. During Yule we see the wisdom of past experience begin to glimmer. The experiences we yielded over the harvest season of the times gone past begin to be reborn as wisdom, new light, to guide us further down the Paths we have chosen. Most of the customs, lore, symbols, and rituals associated with "Christmas" actually are linked to Winter Solstice celebrations of ancient Pagan cultures.

CHECK OUT OUR ARTICLES BELOW.
Imbolc

IMBOLC February 1 or 2
Also known as: Candlemas, Imbolg, Imbolgc, Brigantia, Lupercus, Disting.

This is a Sabbat that celebrates the beginnings of spring as the days get longer. We know the first buds will be showing up soon and we are filled with hope for the coming summer months. Imbolc is about planning and creativity. The Goddess recovers from the birth of Her son and the God's strength is increasing with the waxing power of the sun.
The earliest whispers of spring are heard as the Goddess nurtures Her young son. This is a Sabbat of purification, after the darkness of winter, through the renewing power of the sun. It is also a festival of light and of fertility, once marked with huge blazes, torches and fire in every form. Fire in this season represents our own illumination and inspiration as much as light and warmth. This is a traditional time for initiations and dedications. Here we begin to plan and create our hopes and dreams for the coming summer months.

Even though Imbolc occurs at the coldest time of the year, it marks the time during which days become noticeably longer. We know the greenery that will be born soon is lying just under the surface, planning, waiting for the time when it will meet the sun and thrive.

Imbolc is a festival of waxing light and purification, heralding the potential of spring. It is associated with the Celtic goddess Brid (pronounced 'breed' but)(also called Bride, Bridhe, Brigid or Bridget). In terms of the Goddess cycle, Imbolc is the point at which the old, winter aspect of the Goddess, the Crone, is transformed into the Maiden (the Virgin Goddess, Brid).

CHECK OUT OUR ARTICLES BELOW.
Our bodies are made up of an electromagnetic energy sometimes referred to as the AURA. The flow of this energy affects our health and well being. The chakras are responsible for directing and distributing this energy through our body. Each chakra is responsible for distributing energy to different organs, muscles and nerves. Through our chakras, we receive and transmit physical, emotional, and spiritual energy. The goal is to have all chakra centers clear, balanced, and vitalized for peak health and well being.
Each chakra is associated with a particular area of the body and a color of the spectrum. Each chakra is said to spin at a different frequency. Through our chakras, we receive and transmit physical, emotional, and spiritual energy. We can bring fresh energy into our body through the chakras that can nourish our organs and glands. When each chakra spins at its optimal frequency the body radiates perfect health; emotions are centered and balanced and we enjoy a sense of peace.

CHECK OUT OUR ARTICLES BELOW.
